Privacy Policy

Last Updated: March 11, 2026

At KinkKal, we respect the privacy and security of the kink and BDSM community. This Privacy Policy outlines how we handle data on our website (kinkkal.com) and through our browser extensions. We believe in transparency: we only collect what is strictly necessary to keep the directory accurate and the platform secure.

The KinkKal Chrome Extension

We provide a browser extension ("KinkKal Event Importer") to help organizers and community members quickly port event data from FetLife to KinkKal. Because this extension requests permissions to read web pages, we want to be absolutely clear about how it works:

  • What it accesses: The extension only activates on specific event URLs (fetlife.com/events/*). It does not run on, or have access to, your general browsing history, private messages, or feed.
  • What it collects: When you click "Import to KinkKal," the extension reads the publicly visible event details on that specific page (Event Name, Date, Time, Location, Description, and Tags).
  • Where the data goes: The data is formatted and copied directly to your computer's local clipboard, and then pasted into the KinkKal submission form. The extension does not secretly phone home, track your usage, or transmit your personal FetLife account data to our servers.

Information We Collect on the Website

1. Event Submissions & Contact Info

When you submit an event, claim a listing, or request a correction, we may ask for your name and email address. This information is kept strictly internal for moderation purposes (so our Editors can contact you if there is an issue with your listing). We never publish your personal email address or sell it to third parties.

2. Editor & Admin Accounts

If you volunteer as a KinkKal Editor, we store your email address, securely hashed password, and optionally, links to your public profiles to verify your identity within the community.

3. Security & Visitor Logs (The Sentinel)

To protect our platform from malicious scrapers, spam bots, and cyber attacks, KinkKal employs an automated security system. We temporarily log visitor IP addresses, User Agents, and requested URLs. If a visitor attempts to access hidden vulnerability endpoints (honeytraps), their IP address is permanently stored in our blocklist ("The Dungeon") to prevent future access. Standard visitor logs are routinely cleared and are only used for diagnosing server issues and maintaining site security.

Cookies & Local Storage

KinkKal uses minimal cookies to function. We use standard session cookies to keep our Admins and Editors logged in. We also use a simple cookie (kinkkal_beta) to remember your preference if you opt-in to testing beta features like the interactive map filters. We do not use third-party tracking or advertising cookies.

Public Event Data

KinkKal is a public directory. By submitting an event to KinkKal, you acknowledge that the event details (Name, Location, Dates, Description, Links) will be publicly available on the internet, accessible via our JSON APIs, and included in our RSS feeds. Do not submit private, invite-only residential parties to this public database.
